AGENDA

News.

Another year gone and the AGM comes around again. An explanatory note from the Secretary about the proposed rule changes: the subs amendments bring subs for Associates into line with that of Members. The official visit to the school has not happened for a long time and the days of the leavers teas are past. However it has been the practice for Presidents and members of the committee to attend concerts, presentations, assemblies and the Carol Service when able and invited. The proposal will regularise that situation.

Now to events. The Dinner was a success according to the comments received and we had a good turnout of 51, with several travelling long distances. The 'Knight's' gathering, from 67/68, reached 15! The Lansdown Grove did us proud. Bill Hanna held the attention of the assembled with recollections of school life and Harvest Camps in the 40's! Cycling from Broad Street to Chipping Camden in an evening as I recall! The Presidents reply eludes me! I must have said something but I lost my notes and have no idea what passed my lips! No-one threw anything that I remember so I must have got away with it!

Ladies Night was also splendid and this time, in proposing the toast to 'The Ladies', I quoted extracts from romantic poetry in the finest Sulian tradition. The Golf Club served an excellent meal and Just in time II played some great Big-band numbers with tremendous enthusiasm. Several of us attended the School Carol Service in the Abbey. A full house this year, traditional and modern carols and mince pies in the Head's study after.

Next event this year, after the AGM, at which I hope to see many of you (!), will be the Association sponsored Rugby Match. Old Sulians v Old Culverhaysians on March 13th at Lansdown. The Su's have not had much luck this season but are a young side and trying hard. I hope that as many as can will be at Lansdown to give support and meet old friends.

Later in the year The School are intending to hold an exhibition. Tony Lawdham has passed me an explanatory note!

"In recognition of a hundred years of schooling that encompasses The City of Bath Boys' School, Oldfield School and Beechen Cliff School, the School intends to hold an exhibition of a selection of their archives and other memorabilia at the start of the summer term.

If any Old Sulians (or other former students) have items which they would like to be considered for display, Dai Morris at the School would be delighted to hear from them.

Beechen Cliff School, Alexandra Park, Bath, BA2 4RE or Tel: 01225 485219 (direct) or 480466 (office)."

Now I know that they have a fair sprinkling of the long school photos but they are not a complete set. In the first instance can I suggest a note to Dai with your offerings? We hope to have our own table. Hopefully Tony Comer will produce our archive from his loft and there may be tours of the premises! The next newsletter will be in May and I understand that the exhibition is likely for the latter half of April. The Chronicle may well have details and we will put it on our website when dates are confirmed. Contact The School nearer the time if you want to be there. And a reminder that news for the next issue will be gratefully received however it arrives!
