AGENDA
Well we didn't quite make the 75 but it was a splendid occasion. In the end 60 sat down to a fine dinner and speeches covering the whole of the Associations existence. Pete Powell started proceedings with extracts from the inaugural minutes. In January 1925 the Association was formed. Chaired by L F Burt, the meeting, attended by 16 in total, elected F H Newman as the first President. Subs were set at 3/6 ( or 17½p for the young!). Speeches continued between the courses. Tony Bowrey gave the President's Introduction; John New, the Thirties; John Wragg, the War Years; Mick Moore, the Forties; Tony Comer, the Fifties; Mike Wood, the Sixties; Julian Bowrey, the Seventies and then Mike Dobson, the Bursar for Beechen Cliff School, proposed the toast to 'The Association'. The President had the last word! To pick out highlights would be unfair as each brought back memories that evoked a response from all, but perhaps I could be excused for singling out John New, the undoubted 'Father' of the house for making us all laugh and for resurrecting the original School song, and Mick Moore, known to all for his passion for ancient languages, who started his speech with a fine Latin quotation. Of course, we all immediately recognised this as 'apply by rectum three times daily', together with the genus of 4 exotic plants! Thanks, as always, are due to our tireless organiser, Tony Bowrey, who on this occasion, received an unprecedented 4 letters of appreciation. Mention should also be made of Geoff Yates and Don Sly, who travelled from Australia and America respectively, especially for the evening.
