Dear Old Sulians,
We begin another academic year sure in the knowledge that the perception of academic performance, high quality relationships and strong ethos of the school remain essential ‘ingredients’ for parents looking for an educational home for their boys.
The GCSE performance was strong again this summer. 74% of boys achieved 5 o more A*-C grades and this beat our target by 5%. Nationally 52% of boys achieved 5 or more high grades and therefore we are able to contribute effectively to the cohort of school leavers who will have the aptitudes and skills to be an effective part of the nation’s economy.
Our Sixth Form is the largest it has ever been. 268 students are currently in our Sixth Form – attracted by the quality of academic performance and what they universally describe as the “wonderful atmosphere” of the school.
The school has put a bid into the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) for funding to provide extra accommodation for the additional numbers (in 2004 we were at 180) and we very much hope to receive good news on that front.
It is too early to assess our potential success on the field of sport but we are in the almost unique position of having ‘two masters per team’ this year and I very much hope that I am able to convey news of further great achievements later in the year.
May I wish you all the best for the year ahead and thank you for your continued support of our school.
Andrew Davies
