About the Association

The Old Sulians’ Association was formed in 1925 for former pupils (then only boys of course) of the City of Bath Secondary School, subsequently the  City of Bath Boys’ Grammar School and now Beechen Cliff School. For many years it also ran rugby, tennis and cricket teams, but only the rugby now survives. Since the early seventies that has been an open club and is now independent with less allegiance to the old School.

The Association exists to provide contact between former pupils and a connecting link with the School. With the change of name to Beechen Cliff School the rules were also suitably amended to allow membership to all former pupils, male or female, of all of its titles.

Beechen Cliff School

Inevitably the activities are local. We have an annual dinner, ladies night, golf competition, approach golf competition, a river boat evening picnic and, from time to time other ad-hoc get-togethers. We send out 3 newsletters each year with details of the social events and any news that comes along. The AGM is held at the end of February and we elect a President, assorted Officers and a Committee to ‘manage’ the affairs. We sponsor a number of annual awards at School and representatives attend  School functions.

It has been rare for school leavers to join the Association for many years but we find that people join on returning to Bath, on retirement or at the time of life when memories of schooldays and contact with other like-minded souls have more attraction. We currently have around 250 members with representatives in Canada, USA, Australia and Europe.
